Play Therapy is suitable for children between 4 and 12.
It takes place weekly, over an agreed period, in the same place and at the same time.
Sessions last 40 minutes
The ‘toolkit’, provides a range of toys and creative media, for example craft material, sand play, miniatures, doll’s house, etc.
A short-term therapy period is twelve weeks. That is the minimum number of sessions. If the client’s difficulties are more complex or their needs are higher, then longer-term play therapy may be recommended.
After 8 sessions, a review meeting is held with the referrer and parent/carer. This meeting helps to decide as to whether to extend the therapy or end after 12 sessions as agreed.
